#1
How is water distributed on the earth's surface?
Salt water in oceans and seas accounts for 97.5% of the water on earth.
Fresh water represents less than 2.5% of all water on Earth, of which less than 1% is in liquid form and can therefore be used by humans.
Fresh water directly exploitable by man is found in the form of surface water (coastal bays, lakes, rivers, streams) and groundwater (aquifers).
69% of fresh water is stored as ice or snow
30% of fresh water is stored in aquifers: these are rocks or geological formations that are porous enough to store large quantities of water.
1% of fresh water is stored as liquid surface water in streams, rivers, lakes, etc.
#2
What are the fresh water resources on earth?
Fresh water represents only a tiny fraction of water resources.
Fresh water contained in lakes, rivers, glaciers, water tables, etc. represents less than 2.5% of the water on earth, or 35.2 million billion m³.
Humans can use less than 1% of the total volume of water on Earth, or about 0.028% of the hydrosphere.
The remaining 99%, being either frozen or deeply buried in the ground, cannot be exploited for human consumption.
#3
Quel est le plus grand réservoir naturel d’eau douce ?
This is Lake Baikal, located in southern Siberia. It is the largest natural reservoir of liquid fresh water in the world with 23,000 billion cubic meters of water!
It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its ecological wealth and exceptional fauna ( they are among the richest and most original on the planet).
